Video Headquarters in Keene, NH was one of the largest and best video stores in the country. Not only did it serve as a cultural landmark of southwestern NH, it’s owner, Ken McAleer, played a major part on the national stage as an important leader for independent video retailers. From leading regional buying groups, serving as the head of a number of trade associations, working deals with executives from the big studios, and joining the fight to sue the big chains and Blockbuster, Ken McAleer was instrumental not just for Keene and New Hampshire but for independent video stores around the country. This scrappy, no budget documentary chronicles the rise and final days of the video store once voted the best in the country (1997, via the Video Software Dealers Association). This labor of love was made by a former employee who was granted unparalleled access both during the closing and after with access to thousands of historical photographs and documents of the store’s history.
